FAQ provided by Editor-in-Chief L. E. North
How do I become a contributor?
You must email us at email@example.com and include the following:
-Your first and last name
-Where you are from
-Your written submission - 300 to 800 words
-Visuals - 3 preferably. If you would like a small gallery or carousel of images, please send 6 to 9
-Provide links where people can reach you: website, social media, email, store, etc.
What should I cover in my written portion?
You can talk about your interest or hobby of choice, your passion. You can tell us your story and how you have been able to overcome challenges in your life.
You can talk about how you got into your chosen area and the impact it has had on your life. It's similar to a personal essay or narrative.
Do I have to live in America to contribute?
No. You do not have to live in the United States to be a contributor. We do not discriminate against anyone from any nationality or of any ethnicity.
The only requirement is to submit your work in English, broken English (we are usually pretty good at understanding what you mean even if it's not perfect), or have a translator help you. You can live in any country anywhere around the world, and you are welcome to be a part of our magazine.
I want to be a contributor and write for your magazine, but I am afraid I may not be a very good writer.
You don't have a be the best writer to be featured. Just tell us your story!
As the editor, it is my job to make you sound fantastic! Please do not let this fear stop you from being a part of the magazine. Just do your best. Get the words out on paper, record your story as you talk, and then write the transcription.
Do what works best for you, and leave the editing and challenging part to me. I will fix your grammar and edit for clarity. If you still don't feel comfortable writing, let me know. We offer the Q&A as part of an interview for those who ask for it.
Can I get a printed version of the volume(s) in which you feature me?
We want to get printed magazines of our past volumes. With the company we chose, it would be $15 to $20 per volume. You can pick either a glossy or matte finish, and that includes shipping and handling.
We do not have the funding to purchase them upfront, but if you would like to reserve a copy of your volume, let us know, and we can get it professionally printed up for you and shipped to your house after you have made your payment.
We hope to provide flipbooks and downloadable versions for you guys to save and print for personal use.
When will you contact me if I am going to be featured?
Sid and I will go through emails and discuss your contribution. We try to get to them as fast as possible, typically within the first day or two. If we both think you are a good fit, we will email you and let you know. Sometimes we ask for edits or ask questions that may guide you in the direction we want you to write to fit our style guide and vision.
Do you have any rules?
Our rules are straightforward:
1. No politics or pushing a political agenda. (We do not wish to divide or enrage our readers, and we are not affiliating ourselves with any party or agenda).
2. No religion (Mentioning "spirituality" is okay, but we don't get specific because we want everyone to feel included and united).
3. No hate speech. (We want everyone to feel welcome. We expect kindness and common courtesy).
Is there anything you do not wish for us to discuss in our writing besides the three main rules?
We do not want to mention the pandemic or any atrocity, anything "newsy," misleading, or inappropriate. We have had contributors mention abuse and other unfortunate things in their life, but it is a part of their story, and they want to be open and honest with our readers. We do allow that, as long as it doesn't go into specific details.
That may not be suitable for our younger audience. We want you to feel comfortable opening up, and we do not judge anyone. If you have any further questions about areas like this, please feel free to reach out to us via email, and we can get in touch with you there.
Do I get paid for my contribution?
Sid and I are funding the websites ourselves and accepting donations at https://paypal.me/northartstudio to keep the website running. We are not paying for content, but we have other ideas for the site's future monetization.
We also offer our contributors (some of whom are artists and designers) the chance to put their work on our shirts and merch at the MIM store. If your item sells, you get 90% of the profit.
What are the benefits of being featured?
We cannot make any guarantees or say that results for one contributor are valid for everyone. But we have been told by past contributors that they started earning more commissions. Some got increased traffic or sales on their online store. Some say that being featured has helped promote them to a new audience and potential buyers for their market.
We hope that everyone gains visibility and creates awareness for their projects and life goals. We like to stay optimistic, and we believe in all of you!
Do you allow reprints of articles?
Yes, because we are only publishing your content online and possibly in print or digital editions. We are not taking away your rights to the piece, nor are we taking ownership of any photos or artworks you allow us to publish. We use these with permission, and we always check before putting anything on merch to make sure it is okay with you first.
How can I help design merchandise?
Get in touch with me, Sid, or one of our contributors, Taylor. We are all working on the ideas together, and we have some fun things coming up.
What happens to the volumes that get taken down off the site?
Don't worry. Even though we removed some volumes from the site, they are not gone. I have digital copies saved in various forms and formats on multiple platforms. We will have most of the issues ready for digital download on the site once we get the technical problems sorted out.
We want everyone to be able to have access to all the issues, free of charge. We do not wish to discriminate against anyone financially. The only time we will ask for payment is for the professionally printed official volumes.
But you are more than welcome to download the digital copy and print one for yourself if you cannot afford the ones we will be making. You have our permission, and we will not file any copyright infringement or lawsuit for doing so.
We encourage you to share the files and prints with everyone you know!
If I contributed to a previous volume, may I contribute again?
Yes, even if we featured you before, we encourage you to come back with updates. We love news regarding your hobby, side hustle, or passion. We would be more than happy to have you join us again!
Send us an email stating that you would like to be added to our close-knit community, our group on Facebook.
